Mark on Facing the Dying "There are those who delude themselves about mortality and there are those who don't ." Moving through his high school hallways, Mark recounts the first time he entered the hospice unit at age 18 - "You have to leave yourself at the door...you become an empty vessel." He meets a terminally ill man with a broken voice who will tell him things about life no text book could ever write. Hospice care provides humane care for terminally-ill people in the last phases of their life, as well as working to benefit those who are not immediately dying. This is one segment of the documentary film, "Lessons for the Living." • Mark is a rare human being...he is in high school and has already been a hospice volunteer for over 3 years now. I admire the courage and compassion of this young man. His life going forward will be positively affected in ways he doesn't even realize at this point.

“Those who companion suffering daily need to turn inward to metabolize what they have witnessed. This exquisite book, filled with beautiful images and poetic wise words, is the inspiration and support needed to grow a wise heart.”
