Joellyn St. Pierre brings to The Art of Death Midwifery: An Introduction and Beginner’s Guide nearly two decades of work with the dying and those who support dying patients in homes, hospitals, and hospices. In these pages, caregivers will find compassionate and creative approaches designed to assist those who are helpmates. The author’s techniques are designed to enhance the process of communing with the patient through multiple senses, thereby creating a level of comfort for the dying. St. Pierre elucidates for all practitioners her advanced concepts and practices regarding altered states of consciousness, which enhance this needed communication. Whether the practitioner, known in this book as the death midwife, works through voice or touch, the result is the same: a heightened awareness of presence that creates greater peace. From sacred magic to how best to prepare ourselves for the midwifery role, there are clear-cut techniques for increasing one’s spiritual presence, a valuable component in lifting the veil of mystery and fear from the process of death. For anyone supporting someone near death―and yes, for those about to pass through this life as well―this book is a gift of support that will bring to the journey a sense of peace, empowerment, and transcendence.

  • Hi All, I am new to Hospice Cummunity. I feel I have a calling on my life to hold the hand of the dying in some way and to walk with them to the gate of their new home.
I took care of my parents when they past on, along with my best friend who happened to be my Uncle, a few more wonderful peaple I met when I did volunteer work at a area Nursing home and the last was my Husband who passed on three years ago.
I found their passing to be so personal and yes even beautiful.
I know to some that may sound crazy, but it is true. I grieved with all my being for each one afterward but that still hasen't taken away the most loving and personel moments I shared with them.
my belief is I'll be with them again someday, we are only a breath away, until thenI still grieve but only till I can hold them in my arms once again.
My life goes on here, I have work to do and I have found the most fulling task on this planet is to hold someones hand and let them know they are not alone and never will be.

I have never read this book but it sure looks like it is excellent and very informative.
Can someone tell me where I can find a copy?
    Sincerely,
    Josie
