At the invitation of Beijing Songtang Hospice, the People-to-People Ambassador Program and Johns Hopkins University organized a national interdisciplinary delegation of hospice professionals that traveled to The People’s Republic of China and Tibet during the first two weeks of October 2006. The goal of the delegation was to understand how traditional and western approaches to medical care are practiced in China and Tibet, and to see how these countries had developed their palliative and end-of-life care services. The delegation explored models for hospice care, management of pain and common symptoms, and integration of palliative care principles and spiritual practices.
