In answer to your question about other resources for recruitment, I would suggest two things. I am a hospice volunteer and in my 60's. Seniors, especially those that have retired, have alot of time on their hands. Many of my fellow volunteers are seniors, with one man being in his 80's. I would check out retirement communities (not assisted living) and there are organizations like Rotary Club, Senior Centers, etc. that you could speak at. Being in San Francisco, we have many senior organizations, so check your yellow pages or go online for your area. Another source is nursing schools. Also among my fellow volunteers are nursing students who want hospice experience, so maybe you could speak at a medical center if you have one near you. Good luck!
