  • Great comments Frances. I agree. There are inequities as well as situations that make it difficult to control quality.  Monitoring is the key.  Volunteers can play a role in reporting on quality.

I have seen the same with HIPAA...enforcement of the law is weak.  Every once in a while they fine an organization for poor practices and it raises awareness but in recent years it has been quiet once again.

  • The video is very informative and honest in delivery. I learned early on as a hospice volunteer that the quality of end-of-life care depends on the context in which it is given. Context includes everything and everybody involved. In addition to establishing standards, there must be ongoing monitoring of implementation, and, most of all, accountability. Incentives are fine, but too often penalties for negligence are not implemented, even with all the statistical information available indicating sources of negligence.

“This is a beloved book and beyond a book. It is an evocative, poetic, ecstatic, and inspirited sacred, experiential calling. A calling to you--YES, YOU.”

— Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Living Legend (AAN)

“Those who companion suffering daily need to turn inward to metabolize what they have witnessed. This exquisite book, filled with beautiful images and poetic wise words, is the inspiration and support needed to grow a wise heart.”

“In this unique time of the COVID-19 pandemic, this book should be considered a tribute to the tremendous courage being displayed by nurses around the world. There is much wisdom conveyed throughout by those who have been there serving others with such grace.”
