In the award-winning documentary Children Full of Life, a fourth-grade class in a primary school in Kanazawa, northwest of Tokyo, learn lessons about compassion from their homeroom teacher, Toshiro Kanamori. He instructs each to write their true inner feelings in a letter, and read it aloud in front of the class. By sharing their lives, the children begin to realize the importance of caring for their classmates. This movie is not about Japan, Japanese schools, nor a remarkable Japanese teacher. The location/language is not the point. What makes this film so compelling is its innate human-ness. Listening. Sharing. Empathizing. Bonding. This is a movie about a wise elder human encouraging younger humans to be Great, to listen to their hearts, to listen to others, to reflect and be honest, to make a community for the benefit of all. Start from our heart. Goal is happiness. For everyone. Be sure to watch all 5 parts, it is worth it!! • I have sent these video clips to many of my friends. They are powerful reminders of why lots of us became educators.
