Holiday appreciation gifts

I'm new to Volunteer Coordination...I wanted to ask if any of you buy gifts or hold a lunch at the holidays for your Volunteers? Thanks so much! I welcome your ideas or suggestions. Sondra

  • over the years I have done many things for my volunteers. Generally it was a nice christmas card (used positive promotions)and either a pocket day planner or motivational calendar. I also gave $10 Walmart gift card or $10 movie ticket gift card. I am at a new hospice this year, but planning to do the same but we are also inviting our volunteers to attend our company holiday party which will be in January. Jennifer Thompson, CVA
  • I started doing a Potluck in January when the volunteer's aren't so busy with the holidays.
  • I work for a much smaller hospice. Last year we did a holiday luncheon as well... called it "Very Merry Volunteers," and invited the staff to attend as well as bring in their favorite holiday food... It was a great way for the staff members and volunteers to interact... I did give each volunteer cards signed by the staff and a cup filled with goodies and appreciation pin... Welcome to the field!!!
  • Welcome to the field! We hold an annual holiday luncheon for our volunteers that includes a nice buffet and a centerpiece that always goes home with a lucky volunteer at that table. The centerpieces and room decor always have a theme: we've done candy canes, snowmen, wreaths, wire gift boxes (keep it non-denominational). There is also an inexpensive gift for each volunteer; this year it is a 2011 pocket calendar that cost $1.99 each. The most important part is the entertainment. We have used local performers from high schools and senior groups who perform for free. We are fortunate to have a large facility and about 150+ volunteer attend each year. I hope this information is helpful. Good luck!
