Ideas for getting to 5% - fast?

I'm looking for some ideas on how to increase our volunteer hours fast. We are well below the required 5% mark. We have approx. 10 volunteers in a broad, mostly rural area; and we are serving approx. 75 patients in this area. Most of our vounteers have a current assignment, and cannot take on much more at this time. I will be training a few more volunteers soon, and have some ideas that will help us recruit more volunteers and eventually get our numbers up. But what about in the mean time... I am under pressure to increase our percentage quickly. Any ideas? Thanks, Dale Willis 573-443-8360

  • Dale,

We, too, serve in a rural area with not very many volunteers. We mail alot of cards--I mean alot!! With personal messages written within and writing out the envelopes, you can get several hours plus be a great blessing!! Hope this helps!!
  • This does not pertain to what you've asked - but - nevertheless, in general - do you have any idea (or does anyone have) as to what the average pay scale is for a Hospice Volunteer Coordinator with at least 2-years experience?

  • Hi Dale,

Do you not count the administrative hours into your 5%?
    • Yes.

And since I originally posted my query, we have increased our hours significantly. Thanks!
    • Yes we do count administrative hours; but until last week, we didn't have a volunteer coming to help in our office. Now we have one volunteer helping a few hours per week in the office, to help with filing and making packets, etc.
