We are currently using VWorks to manage our volunteer records. It will too soon not be available with support. Myself and two other coordiantors are looking into other programs including the Volgistics program. I would like to hear from others about the program they use. I work for a Hospice program that has roughly 300 volunteers at this time between three offices and coordinators. What would you suggest

  • Thanks Greg. I will look it over and share with my two co-workers. Angie
  • The Hospice Volunteer Association just launched a pilot program for its Patient Data Vault (PDV) service. This new service is a volunteer record management system that includes allowing sensitive patient data to be stored and retrieved using a standard Internet while still meeting the stringent requirements of HIPAA. All data is encrypted at two levels, allowing only your hospice to be able to access your hospice's patient data. Even HVA, as the PDV host, is unable to access this data.

Click on the PDV link above for more information. We still have a limited number of openings for other hospices who would like to participate in the pilot program, which was launched on July 28, 2008.

Our latest issue of the Hospice Volunteer News, due out by Monday, August 18, 2008, has an article titled "Using the Internet for Volunteer Communications and Maintaining Compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule" that discusses this topic in greater detail.

by Rashani Rea & Kathy Douglas

Those who companion suffering daily, such as hospice nurses and volunteers, will surely appreciate this beautiful work. With 62 original art collages by Rashani Réa, five beautiful chapters by Kathy Douglas, and a foreword by Jean Watson, this exquisite book is a peaceful refuge for contemplation, inquiry, reflection and inspiration for those who traverse the joys and sorrows of nursing.

Kathy Douglas, RN, MPH-HA is a nationally recognized nurse leader, filmmaker and entrepreneur.

Rashani Réa is a prolific artist and musician, a creatrice of sanctuaries and a respected spiritual mentor.

“This is a beloved book and beyond a book. It is an evocative, poetic, ecstatic, and inspirited sacred, experiential calling. A calling to you--YES, YOU.”

— Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Living Legend (AAN)

“Those who companion suffering daily need to turn inward to metabolize what they have witnessed. This exquisite book, filled with beautiful images and poetic wise words, is the inspiration and support needed to grow a wise heart.”

— Frank Ostaseski, founder and director of the Metta Institute and author of The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully

“In this unique time of the COVID-19 pandemic, this book should be considered a tribute to the tremendous courage being displayed by nurses around the world. There is much wisdom conveyed throughout by those who have been there serving others with such grace.”
