  • I would think it would be good idea for all people in society to have this training.
  • During our core volunteer training, we have one of our staff members go through possible emergency scenarios (fire, patient fall with or without injury, death, etc). The things we focus on are: remain calm (exactly what PP said) and go through some steps for each situation so they feel prepared. We also show a video (the same that our staff view) re: safety in the home.

    And a simple thing to do that is so important - we put our phone number on the back of their name badge so they always have it with them. Someone is always available to answer their questions and help them in the event of an emergency.
  • Since our setting is unique to our hospice (we only work in CCRC's), we train volunteers on responding to fire alarms/emergency alarms, emergency evacuation, fire suppression systems, and the "Don't call 911--call hospice".
  • That is a hard one. We do teach them exactly what you have posted but then we also discuss remaining calm to set an example if family members are around. Not much more than what you posted. Sorry I can't be more of a help.
